UK family businesses are a key part of the UK economy. According to the Federation of Small Businesses, there are some 4.7 million businesses in the UK of which over 99 per cent employ less than 50 people but which together employ 13.7 million and generate over 50 per cent of the UK’s annual GDP. But these businesses are responsible for 84 per cent of all new jobs created, for 69 per cent of all apprenticeships, and for 65 per cent of all commercial innovation. And many of these are family owned with more than one generation of the family participating in the business.
At our next Business Advisers Club, we will examine some of the linked issues that confront family businesses in managing ownership and succession, dealing with the tensions that can arise within companies where shareholders are also relatives and meeting the demands of leadership and control for key people within today’s challenging economic climate. We'll examine the opportunities being a family business presents, the hurdles they face, and ask where the next growth opportunities are to be found.
The seminar takes place at the Belmont Hotel, Leicester on 29th November 2011. We will start with registration at 7.45am and conclude with an interactive Q&A session by 9.30am.
There is no charge for attending.
