As part of our continued commitment to provide excellent client service, we would like to introduce our new series of seminars for 2008 - Heads Up!
These quarterly breakfast seminars will take place at our Edmund House offices in Birmingham and will be short, sharp and snappy so that they do not interfere with your working day. They will tackle a diverse range of subjects with up-to-the
minute, clear and straightforward advice on the most important legal issues.
The seminars are carefully designed and prepared with plenty of examples to illustrate the issues discussed which will keep business owners, decision makers and entrepreneurs ahead of the game.
There will be two topics covered at each seminar, and the first seminar will cover Corporate Manslaughter and Directors Duties.
The Corporate Manslaughter & Homicide Act 2007
The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act came into effect on 6th April 2008, and created a new
criminal offence. It goes further than any previous health and safety law in identifying a direct link between how a business is managed and the health and safety of the
people for whom the business is responsible.
It is imperative that senior managers devise, institute and maintain an adequate and effective policy in their overall corporate strategy to ensure that people are protected from risks that may cause injury or death.
Debra Mansfield, Partner and Head of our Regulatory and Trading team, will outline the changes that have taken place.
Directors Duties
The new Companies Act began to be implemented at the beginning of January 2007 and a large section came into force on the 1st October 2007 which brought with it major changes to company law.
Heidi Hendon, Associate in our Corporate Finance and Transactions team, will provide an update on the codification of director’s duties (do you know what you may need to do to demonstrate compliance?) and the potentially increased administrative burden.
