Release date: 19/02/2008

Up to 20 jobs were safeguarded after Standard Motor Products Europe Ltd bought Kettering car parts firm Kerr Nelson.

All staff have now been transferred to SMP's site in nearby Wellingborough, where they will continue to provide vehicle parts, spares and advice to the motor industry.

It follows SMP's on-going expansion and move into its new purpose-built headquarters at Sherwood Park in Annesley, near Nottingham, where the company will be able to service customers across Europe, the Middle East and Australasia.

SMP's group finance director Suky Chahal said: "We are delighted with the acquisition of Kerr Nelson and the way it was handled. The company is an extremely good fit with Standard Motor Products and the acquisition gave us a good opportunity to increase the range of products we offer."

The deal was overseen by a team of corporate specialists at leading Midlands' law firm Harvey Ingram.

Partner Roy Botterill said: "Our team is geared up precisely for this type of acquisition and we are delighted to be able to help Standard Motor Products with its continued expansion."
