LYP volunteers help shape county's young talent

Release date: 12/06/2008

Volunteers from networking group Leicester Young Professionals will be advising the talent of the future at the Young Enterprise's two-day initiative Learn to Earn.

Learn to Earn is a practical, activity-based programme designed to help students who may be at risk of disengagement from their education. Scores of aspirational teenage entrepreneurs are expected to descend on the two-day event, being held at Guthlaxton College in Wigston, on June 16 and 17.

Emma Perkins, a paralegal in Harvey Ingram's Property Group and LYP committee member was instrumental in getting volunteers involved in Learn to Earn.

She said: "The LYP is delighted to part of this superb initiative. Members will be involved in passing on hints, tips and knowledge on everything from business start-ups, running a company and how to get to grips with the world of industry and enterprise.

"Students will be encouraged to identify their longer-term aspirations, and understand how the choices they make in life and their level of achievement affects the attainment of these goals.

"Several LYP members have already been involved with Learn to Earn and they all say how rewarding, enjoyable and great fun it has been."

Accompanying Emma are fellow LYP members Jatinder Kandola, Paul Johnson, and Hayley Bourne, all from Harvey Ingram, David Nelson of Cooper Parry, Nicola Sutcliffe of Vantis plc, Tom Whybrow of Grant Thornton, Paul Smith of The Royal Bank of Scotland, Gary Shepherdson from Yorkshire Bank plc plus Michael Cheung of Michael Associates and James Emberton of Howes Percival.

Young Enterprise Leicestershire already has plenty of high-profile support thanks to the efforts of its president Rosemary Conley CBE and Abbi Morrall, a student at John Cleveland College in Hinckley, and founder of anti-bullying campaign and website ABS-kids.
