Toxic sofa claims being lodged at more than one a week
Personal Injury specialists at Harvey Ingram confirmed more than one case every week is now being lodged by customers left sick, injured or off work following severe allergic reactions to faulty Chinese sofas.
Release date: 29/07/2008
But time is running out as potential claimants must lodge compensation claims before a proposed court-imposed deadline at the end of the 2008.
Thousands of the toxic sofas are already in circulation throughout the UK. It is alleged a chemical known as DMF (Di-Methyl Fumarate) found in the fungicidal sachets of the sofas, may be causing severe skin reactions. The sofas were manufactured by Chinese firm Link Wise Furniture Co Ltd, sold in the UK by Argos, Homebase (Home Retail Group), Land of Leather and Walmsleys, within the past two years. Reactions include chronic itching, severe inflammation of the skin, painful blisters, weeping sores and lesions. In extreme cases injuries have left some customers in hospital and there have also been several reported casualties.
Personal injury specialist Stuart Marshall, is overseeing compensation claims and estimates he is now getting around six or seven cases every month from aggrieved customers who bought the faulty sofas.
"It is vital that anyone who has bought one of these sofas is aware that there may be a problem. If a customer has been left injured, or is off work as a result of an allergic reaction, they should get specialist medical and legal advice in order to make a compensation claim."
